The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Committee to Establish Virginia Advance Directives Day (organized by the Virginia State Bar’s Health Law Section) announced that they will be hosting the inaugural Virginia Advance Directives Day on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

The program was designed to increase public awareness about advance directives, and to help dispel the confusion that exists about these important documents.  The committee is enlisting the help of Virginia hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities to provide space for the event at their facilities, so that the educational materials will be easily available locally.

Watch for announcements about this innovative program in your local paper.  The current version of the Virginia advance directive form, developed by the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, can be obtained on the Advance Directive Forms page of the U.S. Living Will Registry’s web site (go to the page and click on “Virginia”).  This form can be filled in on your computer and then printed for your use.
